may day
Current mood: cheerful
Category: Life

Happy May Day. It's very windy (in like a lion, out like a lamb, right?)and consequently dusty, gritty, etc. I am ready for this windy season to be over but have been here long enough to know that's not likely to happen.

Same old same on the home front. Kids are wrapping up school, momma's eagerly looking at next year and drooling over what we're going to be studying. Zach is zooming through his reading books - he just started learning last November and is already reading Dr Suess and Little Bear books. Zach is also trying to talk me into letting him attach a trash bag to a big box for him to launch himself off the roof of our house to see if he can "fly" to Mrs Stimac's house (next door neighbor). He probably could in this weather, but would actually most likely land in Texas! I have hidden the glue and he learned already that the stapler won't go through card board boxes. Oh, and Zach learned to ride a 2 wheel bike!!

Ben is really into Larry Boy (veggie tales)and watches at least everyday before naptime. I got a really cool bunch of books and toddler type stuff so he can "do" school like his older sibs. At the moment he plays outside if the wind isn't too bad.

Cait and Moriah have their awards coming up for their home ec stuff in a couple of weeks. Both girls did more than the required amount so they will be getting an honor award, too. They are looking forward to it!

Sam is waiting patiently for me to go out with him into the arroyo to collect ants for his new space age ant farm. I am waiting for a break in the wind. Meanwhile, his carnivorous plant seeds haven't yet peeked through the soil. And no, the ant farm isn't for feeding the plants! They just happen to be two things he's interested in.

As for myself, Nate and I are doing great. We are tossing around/praying about adoption. Shocker, huh?

finally the end of the week!
Current mood: bummed
Category: Life

i have really nothing to say. life is going on ( one sec, must put pants on 2 yr old who is "all done") as usual, same struggles, same dreams, same disgust witht the political schemes of others.

its been a crazy week, but in the scheme of things, normal. watching neighborhood children because their lame parents see no problem with dropping off their children to have their mom (my elderly neighbor with heart disease, diabetes and seizures) watching them 24/7, schooling, doing "my thang". i heard from my oldest who thanked me for loving him enough to tell him "no" when he didn't want to hear it and having the guts to tell him when he was wrong, so that was cool. apparently he's watching someone else trying to manipulate a friend with the whole "you don't love me, you don't understand me, you don't care" garbage. that has to have been the highlight of my whole week!

so tell me what midlife crises is all about? see, i like where i'm at and would change very little (please don't think i'm arrogant, just comfortable) but i'm still not sure where i fit in. this has been ongoing now for about a year and i can't really go into it since this is open to the public, so to speak. some of you know my heart - its just the same stuff. hmm.

well, pizzas are done and the LYN club should be back any minute to devour them. the morning at the animal shelter was cut short so they will probably be a little disappointed. home ec this afternoon and we'll need to figure out who needs what awards... concert tonight, AWANA cars tomorrow am and skits tomorrow pm. its busy, but then so is everyones else's schedule i'm sure!

Tuesday and the floor is mopped.
Current mood: argumentative

Yes. Lame introduction, but its the accomplishment of the morning and if you’d seen my floor you’d understand.

Zach is fighting the cold but mom bought flavored children’s Motrin and flavored children’s Tylenol and life is good. Moriah isn’t croupy anymore and Ben, still coughing, is running around like a nut. We’re back to us!

But there is yelling going on in the front room and we need to start school to be able to make the goal of finishing the first week of May a reality so I must end this. I would like to address the previous comment "remembering all the wonderful care we got for 20 years in the military", though. Now most medical care of everyone except active duty is farmed out to the private sector because they lack the physicians to see the patients. First time prenatals often arent’ even seen until the beginning of the second trimester due to overload. Physicians finish with over $120,000 in school debt and can’t usually make the payments on their loans if they are making a Capt. pay ($50,000 to $60,000 I’m guessing). When the doctor’s make mistakes their is no recourse in the military.

Maybe our government ought to make cash/bonus incentives for doctors to volunteer their time at low cost clinics? People should be required to pay SOMETHING, no matter how little, to be seen by a doctor otherwise you have blatant abuses ("my nose is running and i have a headache so i need an antibiotic" demanding to be seen). Drug companies need to stop direct marketing to consumers - the last thing doctors need is a patient matching their symptoms to those on the commercial and asking for the latest pill (that costs insurance $500 a month). We also DESPERATELY need trial lawyers to stop saying EVERY thing is the fault of the doctor/drug. No, birth trauma does NOT (backed by MANY studies) cause Cerebral Palsy and yet if their is something wrong with the baby there is a lawyer promising a multi million dollar lawsuit to compensate you for life.

Don’t even get me going on lawyers. sigh. The whole revolving door court system that is tied up with nonsense so that we can’t get to the really serious stuff. There is a time and a place for everything and I know docs and drug companies make mistakes and when they do knowingly, the punishment should be harsh. But not everything should result in a lawsuit.

And working with the Indians who do get free medical care and who do what they can to get on Medicaid so they can go to the Private Hospital across the street, free medical care doesn’t work. Maybe people associate free with incompetent, maybe we just always want what we can’t have. I don’t know the perfect answer, but I do know what doesn’t work.
